A gobo is a very thin slide of stainless steel that has an image, pattern or lettering laser cut into it.That slide is then placed in a powerful spotlight especially constructed to project that image onto a wall, ceiling, floor. In fact any surface.
The flatter the surface, the better the quality of the projected image. However that is not to say that an image can't be projected on drapes, brick walls, the side of a house, trees, grass - even into a swimming pool. All of which can be very effective.
There are hundreds of stock, standard shapes and patterns readily available commercially.
Custom made laser cut gobo, featuring an individual logo or message, take about two weeks to prepare and are usually a bit more expensive than stock patterns.
The spotlight is normally a white light, however coloured filters can be fited to the spotlight to project the image in any colour you desire.
